Big Blow to FMG Students: Will not get a chance to do internship in MCD hospitals

Posted on April 22, 2025

New Delhi, April 22 – Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG) students in the country’s capital Delhi are facing a big problem. Actually, these students are facing difficulty in enrolling for their compulsory internship in the hospitals under the Municipal Corporation (MCD), because these hospitals have not yet been recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) for internship.

This problem has emerged as a delay in medical career for many students, for which there seems to be no solution in the near future. Let’s know what is the matter.

According to the NMC guidelines, any FMG student has to do a mandatory internship of one year to get permanent registration as a doctor in India, if this is not done then the FMG will not get a chance to work as a doctor in India. Right now the issue is that this internship can be done only in hospitals recognized by NMC. And here many FMGs of Delhi had already submitted their documents in the hope of getting internship in MCD hospitals. But due to the non-recognition of MCD hospitals by NMC, the internship process of these students has been stuck in the middle and there is no solution in sight in the future.

While on one hand the country is struggling with the shortage of doctors, this problem has not only become a big crisis for the career of the students, but it is also affecting their medical registration and future employment opportunities, as well as their medical studies are also of no use to the country.

For many years, medical students were getting the opportunity to do internship in MCD hospitals located in Delhi, but this time due to non-recognition from NMC, the hopes of the students have been dashed.

There is anger and concern among FMG students about this situation. In a report, students say that both their time and money are being wasted in applying for internship. Now they are appealing to the government to either get the MCD hospitals recognized by the NMC as soon as possible or provide internship slots in alternative hospitals, so that their studies are not delayed further and they can start their career on time.

This issue has now created a stir in the entire medical education system. Some experts have given their opinion on this and said that this problem should be resolved soon because if ignored, it can put further burden on India’s healthcare system. Many doctors and medical organizations are now demanding swift action in this matter, so that the future of FMG students can be secured and they do not have to face obstacles in their career.
