The NEET 2026 examination is scheduled to be held on May 3rd, organized nationwide by the National Testing Agency. Approximately 2.5 million students are expected to appear for this exam. However, a state of uncertainty currently prevails regarding the NEET examination this year, primarily due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
For context, a state of war has persisted between Iran and Israel in West Asia over the past few weeks, with both nations engaging in missile and drone attacks against one another. The United States plays a pivotal role in this conflict, as it stands in support of Israel and against Iran. Judging by statements made by the U.S. President, the likelihood of this conflict ending anytime soon appears slim.
Given this situation, maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz located in close proximity to Iran is facing significant disruption. India imports its oil supplies via this route; consequently, if this vital passage were to be blocked, India could face a shortage of oil and gas, potentially leading to a situation akin to a lockdown. As a result of potential disruptions to transportation caused by this crisis, examinations scheduled for April and May most notably NEET 2026 could face postponement.

Although Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously urged the nation to remain prepared for a situation similar to the COVID pandemic, the government subsequently clarified that the country currently holds a 60-day reserve of oil, thereby mitigating the likelihood of such a crisis arising. Provided that the country does not face an oil shortage and transportation services remain uninterrupted, NEET 2026 will proceed as scheduled on its designated date.
