I’ve been feeling tired all the time even though I’m sleeping around 8 hours every night. What could be causing this?
I went through this last year, and honestly, it was very confusing. I was getting what seemed like enough sleep every night, but I still woke up feeling exhausted. I would struggle to concentrate at work, felt sleepy during the day, and even simple tasks felt more difficult than usual.
At first, I blamed stress, but after a few weeks I decided to get checked. My doctor ordered some routine blood tests and found that my vitamin B12 level was low. After starting treatment and improving my diet, my energy gradually returned over the next couple of months.
The interesting thing is that fatigue can have many different causes. Iron deficiency, thyroid disorders, vitamin deficiencies, uncontrolled diabetes, depression, anxiety, poor sleep quality, sleep apnea, chronic infections, and even dehydration can all make you feel constantly tired despite getting enough hours of sleep.
Something else my doctor pointed out was that sleeping for eight hours doesn’t always mean you’re getting good-quality sleep. If you’re waking up frequently during the night, snoring heavily, or stopping breathing while sleeping, you may never reach deep, restorative sleep.
Since persistent fatigue can be related to many different medical conditions, I think it’s worth discussing with your doctor, especially if it’s been going on for several weeks or is affecting your daily activities. A few basic tests can often identify the underlying problem instead of simply guessing what’s causing it.
